Who qualifies for IFHP coverage
The Interim Federal Health Program provides short-term health coverage while your immigration status is being resolved. Most people are covered automatically — no separate application in most cases.
Refugee (asylum) claimants
People who have made a refugee claim in Canada and are awaiting a decision are generally covered while their claim is in process.
Protected persons
Individuals recognized as protected persons, including those granted refugee status by the Immigration and Refugee Board.
Resettled refugees
Government-assisted and privately sponsored refugees resettled to Canada are covered for a defined period after arrival.
Certain other groups

How coverage actually works
In most cases you don't need to apply — your eligibility is tied to your immigration status, and coverage turns on or off automatically as that status changes. That means you don't need paperwork in hand before visiting; our front desk can look up your status when you arrive.
Coverage is administered by Medavie Blue Cross on behalf of the federal government, not by our clinic. We simply bill them directly, so there's no cost to you at the time of your visit for covered services.
